Marina Albero Trio - 8 PM Show
Spectacular Catalonian pianist Marina Albero returns to Ott & Hunter's intimate cabaret room with her trio for two Thanksgiving weekend shows! Joining Marina is Serena, an accomplished international singer, songwriter and instrumentalist from Barcelona now based out of New York City and Seattle (and happens to be Marina's daughter), along with Kelsey Mines on bass. For this event, Marina will be showcasing her recently released album entitled "A Nomad Of Sound", recorded in New Orleans during her her recent residency there. Expect these shows to be vibrant, energetic, featuring unexpected interpretations on music from the world of jazz and cultures from around the globe.
Marina Albero was born in Barcelona, Spain, and started performing music on stage as a child with her family while they toured around the world performing Iberian and early music. In her early years she studied in Barcelona’s Conservatory (El Bruc) and later in La Havana (ISA), where she finished her classical piano studies with the great Cuban professor and pianist Teresa Junco.
Marina has continued to research and incorporate many different music styles such as: jazz, flamenco, early music, Andalusian, classical Indian and Latin jazz….she loves composing and improvising with a wide personal language carved by her colorful background.
Albero was named resident artist of the 2021 Earshot Jazz Festival and that same year joined the illustrious Cornish College of the Arts as piano professor. In spring 2022 she was awarded with two Earshot Golden Ear awards, for "PNW Concert of the Year" and Acoustic Ensemble of the Year" (Marina Albero Trio). Marina has been a trend setter for the Seattle scene, regularly performing with D’Vonne Lewis, Jacqueline Tabor, Japanese-American Trumpet sensation Jun Iida, and many others. Her eclectic musical personality has brought her to share stage with some of the finest musicians beyond jazz such as Brittany Davis, Divinity Roxx, Queen Cora or Celisse.
Kelsey Mines is a performer, composer, and bass instructor native to Seattle. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance from the University of Washington, and a Master of Music in Double Bass Performance from Arizona State University. A recipient of the Holland Scholarship, Kelsey followed her passion for the double bass to the Netherlands, where she studied at Prince Claus Conservatoire before returning to Seattle where she has fully established herself as an important voice as both a performer and educator.
As a composer and band leader, Kelsey was a featured artist with The Sound Ensemble in February 2020 and with the Earshot Jazz Festival in November 2022 presenting commissioned work. She has toured nationally and internationally with the Hollywood Concert Orchestra, the New York Gilbert and Sullivan’s Players, Marina Albero and indie band Ings.
